The government says the mining industry is on the roll following the opening of the bauxite mine in Bua with recent reports now revealing the Namosi copper mine to be opened next year, will bring in millions of dollars.
An Information Ministry statement says the Mineral Resources Department is anticipating another find with huge prospects ù the Tuvatu Gold Mine.
Department director Malakai Finau said Tuvatu was earmarked to be one of the big players in the mining sector in the next few years.
“Tuvatu is one of the biggest prospects with current estimates ranging between 600,000 and 800,000 ounces of gold resource estimated to earn billions of dollars in foreign exchange,” Mr Finau said in the Information Ministry statement.
“Mineral exploration in progress is conducted by Lion One Ltd to identify more gold resources and other minerals that may be there based on the geological setting and the type and style of mineralisation.”
